Christmas Hamper Applications

Christmas is just around the corner and the Nicola Valley Food Bank will be approaching this year a bit differently. We ask for your support for the changes that we will be making. These changes are because we have had an increase of clients, staffing challenges and other issues that is making it a bit more difficult for us. We are also giving a lot of our time to becoming accredited through Food Banks Canada, which is required for us to do in order to continue being part of the network. Without accreditation, we will no longer have access to funding, which is why we must choose, to make Christmas as easy as we can, less time consuming on our part.

In past years, the cost of the Christmas Hamper program averaged a cost of $30,000 to purchase the product. We depend on the community to help with donations. It is because of the donors in our community, we can continue to provide support for Christmas and throughout the rest of the year. Please remember, this hamper support is for Christmas only.

We ask that you return your completed application to the foodbank prior to November 21, 2024. For those of you with children and would like to be matched with a St. Nick’s of the Nicola Valley community sponsor, please return your application as soon as possible. As much as we would love to be able to find sponsors for all our families, this may not be possible. Please be assured we are doing our best.

The pickup location of your Christmas hamper support will be the week of December 16, 2024. Posters and Facebook posts will keep you updated as to date and time.

Please join in us with spreading Christmas Spirit this year by becoming a “St. Nick of the Nicola Valley” to one of our food bank client family’s. The cost of living has increased, as we all know, the number of clients has increased, and donations are down this year. We are grateful to all those who participate in the program.

Depending on the size of the family, a hamper can cost between $250.00 – $500.00.

The sponsor will provide the following:

– Christmas Breakfast: Eggs, bacon, bread or pancakes

– Christmas Dinner: Turkey or ham, vegetables, gravy and stuffing (all the fixings)

– Snacks: Cookies, potato chips or crackers

– Beverages: Coffee, Tea, Hot chocolate or pop

– Christmas gifts

We have families with 1 parent and 1 child to as many as 2 parents, grandparents, and three or four children.

You can also choose to help one of our many other clients such as a senior or a person with a disability.

Another option is monetary donations that can be dedicated towards our Christmas Hamper campaign.
